Our Story
American Sales Company is an affiliate of Ahold USA and began its purchasing and distribution services in 1994. The company was then housed in a 200,000 square foot warehouse. In 2001, ASC expanded into its current state-of-the-art distribution center. The new facility is nearly three times the size of its original home and is located at the intersection of Walden and Pavement Roads in Lancaster, New York. ASC has quickly grown to become one of the largest distributors of health and beauty care items, seasonal items, and general merchandise in the United States, shipping more than four million units per week.
Advances at the new ASC distribution center are establishing the company as an industry leader in effectively satisfying customer needs. New integrated technologies have allowed ASC to advance beyond the industry standard of simply shipping products in “case lots.” Customers are now able to order exact quantities, even in unconventional amounts, and ASC can facilitate those specific requests with ease. An ever-increasing inventory of better than 32,000 different items means ASC stocks both the latest products as well as familiar brands that remain in great demand. To handle the sheer volume of goods, ASC has branched out, creating two satellite facilities. Seasonal merchandise is shipped out of a location on Scrivner Drive in Cheektowaga. A prescription drug distribution center is maintained in Baltimore.

Implementing the company's innovative approach to product distribution requires a well-trained and highly motivated workforce. Norm Haberl, Vice President of Distribution, recently applauded ASC employees for their efforts and their expertise. “We continue to take on more volume year after year. We have state-of-the-art systems and material handling equipment, but it’s our dedicated, highly productive people who are able to make this unique, high-volume distribution center so valuable and successful.” ASC employs an expanding staff of nearly six hundred associates in a variety of positions, including buyers, order selectors, lift operators and loaders.
American Sales Company receives orders from more than 800 grocery stores, all part of the Ahold USA family. The list of customers includes Tops, Giant, Martins and Stop & Shop stores. Ahold USA is a division of Royal Ahold, a multi-faceted international company that is based in the Netherlands. They are involved in the manufacturing and retailing of food and other consumer goods in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
American Sales Company works hard to be a good neighbor as well as a supporter of the community. ASC associates participate in a variety of charitable events throughout Western New York. The company also encourages volunteerism and is a long-standing contributor to civic and charitable endeavors.
